Advanced Clergy Program
in Bowen Family Systems Theory

Overview

Meeting on a monthly basis, each class will provide a brief review of one of the concepts of Bowen Family Systems theory.

Case studies will be presented either by the instructor or by a participant to think through a specific situation through a systems lens.  In order to provide a safe environment within which to apply learning to real life situations the class will be limited to 5 participants.

Sharon is an Anglican priest and a Registered Clinical Counsellor. She has been studying and applying Bowen Family Systems Theory and Therapy to her own life for more than 20 years and in her clinical work and in congregational ministry for about 18 years. She has received training through the Clinical Internship Program at Living Systems Counselling and the Post-Graduate Program at the Bowen Center in Georgetown, Washington D.C.

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for clergy and lay leaders of churches, synagogues, temples, mosques or other faith communities.

Learning Objectives

  • To provide a deeper understanding of Bowen Family Systems Theory.
  • To allow participants the benefits of continued work on differentiation of self within their families and in a leadership role within a faith community.
  • To demonstrate how systems thinking can apply to the organizational life of faith communities.

Admission Requirements

This course is intened for those who have taken an introductory course to Bowen Family Systems theory and have some familiarity with key concepts of the theory.
