Conference Overview

Are you working hard to apply family systems theory in clinical practice? The Systems Model for Family Assessment (SMFA) may help! The SMFA consolidates Bowen Theory in five dimensions.

These dimensions can be applied to the family, the work setting, and/or to assess one’s own work as a therapist in clinical practice. The day will include theoretical presentations and time for discussion across the day.

The Systems Model for Family Assessment

The Family Assessment Model was originally proposed by Dr Papero as a way to think about one’s work with a client. It describes five “dimensions” that can be used to organize ones thinking and questioning during a client session. It describes different aspects of functioning on continua. It is not a “diagnostic instrument” but a useful conceptual framework that aligns with Bowen Family Systems Theory. For more background, you may purchase Dr. Papero’s article that describes this model “Developing a Systems Model for Family Assessment” click here
